Paint down the slide and problem solving

The staff laid paper down the slide and the children then dipped toy cars in paint and set the cars off down the slide, making paint marks as they went down. After this activity set up by the staff, the children adapted the idea, setting up paper in other places in the garden, putting the cars and other objects of their choice, such as balls, in paint, and running the objects down their own paper slide.  Later there was a great deal of problem-solving discussion, about where the painted pieces of paper could be displayed in the nursery, with one child saying that if it went along a certain wall, part of it would have to be cut out because of the clock, so that we could still tell the time.
