I would like to welcome you to our school.
I write to update the welcome page at this time of huge uncertainty and change in our country and indeed the world. Our school is only partially open, offering provision for the children of key workers and vulnerable children in our community, please contact the school office (01273 844130) if you require support. I know the village community and communities across the country are coming together to support the vulnerable members of our society and demonstrate the values of koinonia (community) and compassion that are core in our school. St Margaret’s Church’s youth worker, Gary, is publishing a daily Thought for the Day, which is suitable for children, please see the church website: https://www.facebook.com/thebeaconparish/.
At Ditchling (St Margaret’s) CE Primary and Nursery School our clear vision – Learning Together. Building Success – unites staff, governors, families and children.
We are a welcoming, creative and inclusive community which, as of September 2019 includes 180 pupils across six classes and a nursery. Alongside regular teaching of literacy and mathematics, including daily phonics sessions in early years and Key Stage 1, children’s learning across the curriculum is enriched by regular outdoor learning opportunities including Forest School. We use rich texts to inspire our curriculum plans and make meaningful links across subject areas to support depth in learning.
Our December 2017 OFSTED inspection judged us to be a ‘Good’ school overall; we were delighted to achieve ‘Outstanding’ for the Pupil Development, Behaviour and Welfare section. The Inspector remarked on the exemplary behaviour of the pupils. Also noting that ‘pupils benefit from a rich and engaging curriculum. They thrive on the motivating opportunities staff organise.’
The process has endorsed our self-evaluation and next steps for future development. The report is published on the School Information – Reports on the school tab.
The school is very well supported by an enthusiastic and passionate governing body and FPTA as well as by the Diocese of Chichester and clergy serving our local church, St Margaret’s in Ditchling. We work closely with a number of outside bodies including the Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft, Brighton and Hove Albion football club, Stoneywish Nature Reserve as well as working closely with a group of local schools to support our pupils and staff to grow and flourish. We believe strong links with the local community increase the relevance of the learning by making meaningful links to real life.
We would be delighted to share with you our vision and enthusiasm for learning. Anyone interested in joining our school community is welcome to contact Miss Hemes, in the school office to arrange a visit and will need to complete an application form which is available from East Sussex Local Authority.
I hope you enjoy your journey round our website and look forward to welcoming you to our fabulous school.
Mrs S Thompson
