Railway Children at Glyndebourne

Last week, Year 5 and 6 were incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to visit Glyndebourne and see the opera The Railway Children. It was a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.

The children were captivated from start to finish, enjoying a performance full of energy, music, and drama. They were especially impressed by the ingeniously designed set, which moved seamlessly around the stage and brought the story to life in a magical way. The addition of a live orchestra made the experience even more extraordinary, adding depth and excitement to every scene.

It was a wonderful chance for the pupils to experience live opera and theatre, inspiring creativity and giving them a new perspective on storytelling through music. The trip was a perfect combination of education and enjoyment, and it left a lasting impression on all who went.

The lead mezzo-soprano was so impressed with the children’s excellent behaviour that she got in touch to congratulate them. We are thrilled to welcome her to Ditchling later this month for a special performance.

“My name is Rachael Lloyd and I was one of the principal singers, singing the role of the mum, Cathy, in the opera of The Railway Children that your yr 5 and 6 students came to see today at Glyndebourne. I came out after the show to meet them and I just wanted to say what an absolute pleasure it was! Those that I spoke to were so enthusiastic and polite- a real credit to your school!”
