Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

At Ditchling, supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is a priority for our whole team. We understand that navigating the journey can sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming, and we want you to know that we are here for you every step of the way. Our goal is to ensure that every family feels supported, heard, and confident in the care and education their child receives. If you ever need guidance or just want to talk, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment—we’re always here to help.

Online Parenting Courses

On the Family Hub website, you can find details on a range of courses (some face to face, but
many online) which are run by the East Sussex Parenting Team. They offer online groups and
webinars for parents which aim to support parents to build a strong, healthy relationship with
their child and understand their needs. All of their courses are free to attend. Courses cover a
variety of topics such as online safety, managing anxiety, neurodivergent children and many more.

Short breaks

Short breaks, also known as respite, are a range of services that support children, young people and their families. These allow children and young people some time away from their families while enjoying new experiences.

Short breaks can include provision from anything between 2 hours, to overnight activities. They can take place in the child or young person’s home, an approved carer’s home or in a residential/community setting.

Short breaks are provided for children and young people (0-19) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). They are also for their siblings (0-19). However, some short breaks are offered to young people up to the age of 25.
