We have increased the range of Pupil Leadership opportunities for our KS2 children. The children applied for the positions, if they were not already House Captains or School Council representatives. Each role is structured in the same way with the responsibilities built around the 5 Principle of Effective Leadership from the Leadership Challenge:

Garden Gang
We work with Mrs Evans to ensure our school’s grounds are well-looked after. We are responsible for watering all of the plants in the Quiet Area, and delivering the Forest School Award each week. This job may seem small but it is one of the only jobs that is busy all year round – especially in the autumn.
Environment Squad
WHAM Leaders
WHAM is all about looking after people’s minds, and promoting healthy living throughout the school. This job role means we are in charge of: updating each class’s reflection books, finding positive quotes for the school newsletter and spreading kindness throughout our school community.
AV Gang
We are in charge of preparing the hall each day for Collective Worship. Our role is to ensure chairs and benches are safely put out ready for the school to come together each morning. Then during Collective Worships, we control all things tech by clicking through PowerPoints and ensuring the sound is working correctly.
Digital Leaders
As Digital Leaders, we have a large role with lots of responsibility. In today’s world everyone in our community is online, from reception up to the adults. It is our role to work with Mr D to educate everyone about staying safe online and support teachers towards setting up for the their computing lessons. We don’t know what our role will look like by the end of the year as the world of technology is always changing so watch this space.
House Captains
How could we describe our role in a few words – counting and inspiring others?
Being a House Captain at Ditchling means that each week (ready for Thursday) we have the responsibility of counting up all the house points scored in our houses, ready to present the score in the Excellent Effort. Aside from house point counting, we strive to inspire our peers to achieve in their best in sports and their learning by being supportive and always trying our own bests.
Librarians
We make sure that our school library is the best place in the world to learn, grow and, of course, read. We help Mrs James to create an organised and inspiring space for our schoolbooks to live when they aren’t being explored by children. Thursday’s are a busy day for us as we present the Ravenous Reader Award in Excellent Effort and share a story with our Reception friends at 2pm.
News Crew
Being a proud member of the News Crew means:

Every two weeks, our boss (Editor Hemes) sets us to work. Our role is to get the inside scoop about the recent events in our community. We have to interview our peers to find out their thoughts and capture the moments of interests using the iPad camera. Once we have drafted out our article, Miss Hemes proofreads the product and shares in school newsletter.
