We were delighted to see so many familiar faces from school taking part in this year’s Remembrance Sunday service. Our school was the starting point for the parade to the war memorial, and many of our pupils joined in with their clubs, including Scouts and other local groups, laying wreaths to honour those who gave their lives. It was wonderful to see the children taking part so thoughtfully and showing such pride in being part of this important community event.
As part of our Children in the Community morning, Year 4 created a beautiful poppy display from handprints for St Margaret’s Church, which was on display during the service for everyone to see.
Then on Tues 11th, our Year 6 class visited the war memorial to reflect further on the meaning of Remembrance. That morning, some members of The Combined Cadet Force at Hurst visited school to lead an assembly, explaining the significance of the poppy and why they wear it. The children listened attentively and asked thoughtful questions, showing a deep understanding of the importance of remembering those who died in conflict.
It was a meaningful week for all our pupils, helping them appreciate both the history and the personal sacrifices of those who came before us. The children’s respect and reflection throughout the activities were truly commendable.
