Last week, Year 5 and Year 6 set off on their much-anticipated residential to PGL Marchants Hill – and what a week it was!
From the very first day, the children threw themselves into an exciting programme of activities including zip wire, giant swings, climbing, laser tag and archery. As the week went on, they tackled even more challenges such as Jacob’s Ladder, Survivor, problem solving, trapeze, sensory trail and archery tag. Rifle shooting proved especially popular, and there was great excitement around the campfire as everyone enjoyed toasting marshmallows together.
Although the weather was not always on our side and we had more than our fair share of soggy moments, the children approached every activity with enthusiasm and resilience. Raft building in the rain was a particular highlight, with the adults cheering from the side ending up wetter than the children in the lake! Orienteering also gave the children a chance to build their independence and develop their map-reading skills.
Evenings were just as memorable, with a fantastic silent disco organised by the group leaders providing a brilliant way to celebrate the end of a busy and action-packed week.
Throughout the residential, the children were true ambassadors for our school. They demonstrated kindness, respect and perseverance in everything they did, and the PGL staff commented on how lovely and well-mannered they were. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.
A huge thank you goes to the staff and volunteers who gave up their time to make this experience possible. It was an exhausting but unforgettable week, filled with laughter, challenge and achievement – and one the children will remember for years to come.
