Last week, Year 5 were delighted to welcome back Chef John, from the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, for his annual visit as part of the culinary programme he runs with our pupils each year. His sessions are always a highlight of the Year 5 curriculum, giving the children a wonderful blend of practical cooking skills and insight into the world of hospitality.
In the morning, Chef John taught the children how to make their own bread dough—an experience they always look forward to. After plenty of kneading and shaping, each child took their dough home, where many went on to bake loaves, rolls, and even pizzas to share with their families.
In the afternoon, Chef John introduced the class to front-of-house techniques, teaching them the professional skills used to welcome guests, set tables, and serve confidently. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning these new skills and understanding the teamwork involved in creating a great dining experience.
